The Harrisburg YMCA announces its Health Equity Tour, a series of in-person events throughout the 67 counties in Pennsylvania focused on access to health resources over the next year.
The tour begins May 1, 2021 at the Camp Curtin YMCA in Harrisburg from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and will promote the COVID-19 education, YMCA evidence-based chronic disease management programs, oral health, cancer screenings, senior social isolation, Pennie™ and so much more. The YMCA staff will work with food banks and pantries to distribute food to those attending the event, connect attendees with vaccinations (where possible), A1C testing, and coordinate community blood drives. The tour stops will be scheduled at YMCAs across the Commonwealth. Additional tour stops will be located at federally qualified health centers, Penn State University branch campuses, housing complexes, and other event locations throughout Pennsylvania. The YMCA is focused on creating equitable and sustainable solutions that address both the immediate needs of the community and the systemic root causes that lead to inequalities. The YMCA’s commitment to Diversity, Inclusion and Global (DIG) serves as a compass for the Y as it works alongside communities to drive social progress and positive social change addressing systemic racism and other forms of institutionalized bias. With this tour, the Y aims to provide the community with resources during a time when reserves have been limited.
