CANCER is the # 2 cause of death in Pennsylvania. In 2019, the Pennsylvania age-adjusted cancer incidence rate was 449.5 and cancer mortality was 153.2. To understand the problem of cancer in the state, DOH releases yearly cancer incidence and mortality data. For data on cancer, reference the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Enterprise Data Dissemination Informatics Exchange (EDDIE) tool and also read the Cancer Burden Report.

The Pennsylvania Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (PA CCCP), Division of Cancer Prevention and Control within the Department of Health Home is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of efforts to prevent and manage cancer. The overarching goal of the Department is to eliminate the burden of cancer for all Pennsylvanians. To achieve this, the Department established the goals aimed at preventing cancer, early detection and treatment, improving survivor quality of life and achieving cancer health equity.
